The Future Economy Incubator was founded on a simple and uncomfortable observation: opportunities for radical economic change are being lost because we are not ready for them. When the 2008 financial crisis broke, we spent too much time explaining what went wrong and not enough on harnessing the moment to put forward well-developed proposals for major change. The window of opportunity opened and closed. Business as usual rushed back in.

The Incubator exists to develop deep and detailed proposals for economic change, and to help build the political power that changes the system from the outside. We collaborate with a diverse network of radical thinkers and grassroots social movements, so we are not just ready to seize moments of opportunity, but to create them.

The Future Economy Incubator was co-founded by international human rights lawyer Meghna Abraham, and anti-trust lawyer and author Michelle Meagher.

Small, nimble and networked, the Future Economy Incubator is intentional in not having a classic non-profit structure. We are staff-light and instead work with and through a dynamic ecosystem of independent actors, from global networks of communications specialists helping to develop and share our content, to regional and international networks using our work.

Our approach is rooted in five commitments: naming the system honestly, working out alternative economic ideas fully, taking the pain of transition seriously, working with social movements to build political power, and centring decolonisation and reparations as non-negotiable elements of economic transition.
